Background
Defcon Technologies is a Canberra-based supplier, contractor, and prime vendor specialising in advanced defence, national security, aviation, and law enforcement technologies. Established in 1999, the organisation works closely with government agencies, strategic partners, and system integrators to deliver specialised products, systems, and services across Australia.
Their portfolio includes combat-proven technologies and equipment used in defence, counter-terrorism, border protection, law enforcement, and aviation applications. Over time, the company has continued to expand its capabilities and product offering, including growth into aviation ground support equipment, simulation, and specialised lighting systems.
DEFCON engaged OSKY to create a modern digital platform that better reflected the organisation’s scale, technical expertise, and extensive product range. The previous website no longer aligned with the quality of the organisation’s capabilities and required a more flexible and scalable solution to support future growth.
Because DEFCON supplies exclusively to recognised organisations and government-related sectors, the website needed to showcase products and capabilities without implementing direct ecommerce functionality.
Engagement and Approach
OSKY partnered with DEFCON from the earliest discovery and planning stages through to design, development, and launch.
The project focused on creating a professional, modern, and highly scalable digital experience that would clearly communicate DEFCON’s capabilities while supporting a large and evolving catalogue of specialised products and solutions.
Key project considerations included:
- Structuring complex product and capability information in a clear and accessible way
- Designing a user experience suitable for technical and government-focused audiences
- Ensuring the platform could scale as new products and categories were introduced
- Delivering a fast and responsive frontend experience
- Providing flexible content management for internal teams
- Maintaining a secure and future-ready technical architecture
To support these goals, OSKY recommended a headless WordPress approach, separating the frontend experience from the CMS backend. This provided greater flexibility in frontend performance and design while still allowing DEFCON’s team to manage content efficiently through WordPress.
Throughout the engagement, OSKY worked closely with stakeholders to refine content structure, user journeys, and product presentation to ensure the final platform aligned with DEFCON’s operational and business objectives.
Solution
OSKY delivered a fully custom headless WordPress website tailored to DEFCON’s requirements.
Key deliverables included:
- Discovery workshops and project planning
- Custom UX and UI design
- Headless WordPress CMS implementation
- Custom frontend development
- Responsive website design across desktop, tablet, and mobile
- Product showcase and catalogue functionality
- Flexible content management structures
- Scalable information architecture
- Performance-focused frontend delivery
- Secure deployment and go-live support
- Ongoing technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle
The website was designed to effectively showcase DEFCON’s specialised technologies and solutions while intentionally excluding ecommerce functionality, reflecting the organisation’s restricted supply model and procurement process.
Results and Benefits
The new DEFCON website provides a significantly more modern and credible digital presence aligned with the organisation’s reputation and technical expertise.
Key outcomes included:
-
- Improved presentation of complex products and capabilities
- A faster and more responsive user experience
- Flexible and scalable content management for internal teams
- Enhanced usability across all devices
- Stronger alignment between the website and DEFCON’s professional positioning
- A future-ready platform capable of supporting ongoing growth
- Improved ability to showcase a broad and evolving product portfolio
- Greater flexibility through a headless architecture approach
The project delivered a strong foundation for DEFCON’s continued growth while supporting the organisation’s communication and engagement objectives across defence, security, aviation, and government sectors.
Conclusion
OSKY partnered with DEFCON through every stage of the project, from initial discovery and strategy through to design, development, and launch. The result is a scalable and modern digital platform that reflects DEFCON’s position as a trusted supplier of advanced technologies and specialised solutions across critical industries.
