Background
The Curriculum Vitae (CVD) app is an AI-powered mobile recruitment platform developed by OSKY for Communication Open, a Switzerland-based company founded by Emmanuel Bichet and Elodie Anglade. The platform enables job seekers to create professional video CVs and helps employers to accelerate candidate screening all within a single, intuitive mobile experience.
Since its launch on the iOS App Store in June 2024, CVD has expanded to 88 countries, supported five languages, and gained strong traction among job seekers and recruiters.
Communication Open once again partnered with OSKY to redesign and develop CVD version 2.0. This major release focused on transforming the platform into a fully featured cross-platform solution, including the launch of an Android application and significant user experience redesign. The goal was to make professional video resume creation more seamless, intuitive and engaging for job seekers and recruiters around the world.
Challenges
Despite the success of v1, several structural and user experience issues had emerged that limited the app’s ability to scale effectively.
Limited Android Availability
Version 1 was primarily focused on iOS, limiting access to a significant portion of potential users who rely on Android devices. Expanding to Android was essential to support wider adoption and ensure a consistent experience across both major mobile platforms.
Fragmented Codebase across platforms
Version 1 of CVD was maintained as two separate code bases, requiring updates, bug fixes and new features to be implemented multiple times. This increased development effort, slowed release cycles, and made it more difficult to maintain a consistent experience across platforms as the product continued to grow.
Inconsistent user interface and experience
Without a shared design system the UI pattern had diverged across platforms over time. Screens behaved and appeared differently depending on the device, creating a disjointed experience for users and unnecessary rework for the development team.
Friction in core video workflows
The video creation and management experience which was the heart of the CVD product had several usability shortcomings. The camera view was partially obstructed during recording, video previews felt cramped, and the editing interface was not intuitive enough for users unfamiliar with video production tools.
No guided onboarding
New users were dropped directly into the app without any introduction to its features or workflows. This contributed to lower activation rates and reduced early-stage retention, particularly among users less familiar with video CV formats.
Limited scalability for new feature
The existing architecture made it challenging to introduce new capabilities safely, such as enhanced AI-powered script generation, improved export options, and advanced video editing tools, without increasing the risk of regressions across either platform.
Engagement and Approach
OSKY worked closely with Communication Open through the project, from the initial planning and requirements gathering stages through to development, testing, and the release of the app on global app stores.
The strategy focused on rebuilding the application around a single React Native codebase. By consolidating the previously separate iOS and Android codebases, OSKY was able to eliminate duplicated effort and pave the way for fast, cost-effective future development.
Key considerations throughout the engagement included:
Preserving proven functionality
The version 2 platform preserved all key functionality from version 1, including authentication, role-based access for Recruiter, Pitcher, Candidates, video recording and playback, script management, and multi-language support while rebuilding these within a new unified architecture.
Redesigned the experience from the user’s perspective
OSKY approached the UX redesign by focusing on the moments where v1 created friction. These included a user’s first experience opening the app, the process of recording a video, and the steps between capturing footage and exporting a polished CV. Each of these journeys was redesigned with clarity, simplicity and usability in mind.
Establishing a unified design system
A consistent component library and design language was created to govern how every screen, button, form and interaction behaves in both iOS and Android, while providing a foundation for future development.
Maintaining the same backend infrastructure
To minimise the risk and delivery time, the v2 rebuild retained the same API endpoints, authentication system, and data structures as v1. This allowed the team to focus engineering effort on the frontend experience and new feature development rather than backend migration.
Solution
OSKY redeveloped the CVD app using a modern cross-platform architecture, creating a consistent experience across both iOS and Android while making the platform easier to maintain and enhance in the future.
Improved user experience
To help new users get started, OSKY introduced a guided onboarding experience that explains the platform’s core features and makes the app easier to navigate from the version 1
The video creation process was also streamlined, allowing job seekers to record, review, edit, and finalise their video CVs more quickly and with greater confidence.
AI-Assisted Script Creation
To make video CV creation more accessible, OSKY integrated AI-powered script generation using Mistral AI. Users can generate personalised video CV scripts based on their experience and background, helping them prepare professional presentations with less time and effort.
A Strong Foundation for Future Development
By rebuilding the platform on a unified codebase, OSKY delivered a more reliable, scalable solution that supports future enhancements while providing a consistent user experience for users across different platforms.
Results and Benefits
The successful release of CVD Version 2 provided Communication Open with a modern, scalable platform that supports ongoing growth and future feature development.
By consolidating the application into a single cross-platform codebase, OSKY reduced the complexity of maintaining separate iOS and Android applications while ensuring a consistent user experience across both platforms.
The new version was launched simultaneously on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, allowing Communication Open to continue serving users across major mobile ecosystems from a unified platform.
The redesigned onboarding, video creation, and script generation workflows made the app easier to use and created a more streamlined experience for job seekers preparing and sharing video CVs.
OSKY also delivered the upgrade as a seamless transition from the previous version, allowing existing users to retain their accounts, profiles, and data without disruptions.
Conclusion
The delivery of CVD version 2 strengthened Communication Open’s ability to grow and evolve the platform while supporting its existing user base. By modernising the application and creating a more sustainable foundation for future development, Communication Open is better positioned to respond to user needs, introduce new features, and expand the platform over time.
The project also reinforced the long-standing partnership between OSKY and Communication Open. Since the initial development of CVD, OSKY has continued to support the platform’s evolution, helping transform the original concept into a mature recruitment solution used by job seekers and employers internationally.
With Version 2 now live, communication Open has a platform that can support its future product roadmap while continuing its mission of helping candidates showcase their skills and experience through professional video CVs.
